The Cornwall Festival of Dance is one of the many events at the Royal Cornwall Show, Wadebridge.  9th, 10th and 11th June 2011

 

June 2003

The first year it was only held on the Saturday with a grand parade of morris and traditional dance that wound around the show site, followed by a massed dance at the Member's Pavillion.

June 2004

In 2004 the Festival had its own Marquee where workshops and demonstrations were held over the three days of the show.Saturday was again a grand procession and dancing around the Showground.


June 2005

The festival marquee was situated on the Flower Show lawn, which was a wonderful site and was laid out with chairs for the weary show-goer to rest and watch the dancing.
Saturday saw a colourful procession around the showground and a varied and exciting programme on the Festival stage.

June 2006

Once again the Festival Marquee and Stage were situated on the Flower Show lawn, which is a perfect setting. The weather was kind, if at times a bit too hot, but the dancers enjoyed good crowds to entertain and a great deal of interest in what was happening.

There was a wonderful variety of dancing on the Thursday and Friday, with Line Dancing, Circle Dance, Flamenco, Salsa, Appalachian and Morris of various kinds.
We were blessed by Skinners Ales and Ginsters for all our food and drink requirements and Ed Mayhew from Hobgoblin kindly supplied and ran our PA system.

Saturday saw our usual procession through the Showground, featuring around eight dance sides which included Cornish Dance and English Morris. This cullminated in a grand dance at the Members Pavillion.

Meanwhile there was still an active programme of events happening on the stage which included Hanging Johnny singing their shanties, jive, appalachian and cornish dance demonstrations.

The morris sides also performed at various spots around the show.

June 2007

The sun shone gloriously for all three days on the Royal Cornwall Show and the Festival was once again a great success.
Performances from all kinds of dance entertained a constant audience and this year saw the first youth groups performing on the stage along side old favourites.
There was morris around the showground on Saturday, with an international flavour as Couptrain Morris made their debut in England.
My thanks to all who took part, and look forward to more fun next year.
